HackGuelph: September 15—CANCELED

13 Sep

Update: I’m going to have to cancel tonight’s meeting due to illness.

Since September has five Thursdays we’re off for two weeks, but we’ll be back on October 6. Anybody who is interested in demoing should either contact me directly or get in touch via the mailing list.

~Chris

Hey folks!

This week we will be looking at Perl 6, a language that has been in development for over ten years. I’d welcome input on other in-development or recently released languages or version updates like C++0x or Python 3.

As usual, we’ll be at ThreeFortyNine from 6:00 to 9:00 and head to the Wooly afterwards.

Please remember: If you want to present something, or if there is something that you’d like to see, send it to our mailing list!

It’s party time!

I thought it would be fun to hang out and barbecue next week instead of having a regular meeting. I’ll provide burgers (meat or veggie) for anybody that wants one, and the kind folks at ThreeFortyNine have offered to share their keg with us. I welcome contributions of salads or snacks :-) .

If you’re planning to come, please get in touch with me by Tuesday, August 30 so I can buy enough burgers.

I would also ask everybody who plans to drink beer from the keg to bring some money that can be contributed back to the ThreeFortyNine beer fund.

Date and time: Thursday, September 1, 6:00–whenever

Location: ThreeFortyNine

Our topic for Thursday’s meeting will be ebooks and ebook readers.

Karl will be talking about his Kindle as well as some third-party applications for it.

Please feel free to bring your ebook reader and show it off!

Yes, we are meeting tonight!

We don’t really have anybody lined up to present, so I thought we could talk about text editors. Emacs? Vim? TextMate? Notepad++? What’s your favourite? Why?

I’ll be talking about Emacs (and possibly vi), but I’d love to hear from the rest of you.

As usual, we will probably head up to the Wooly afterwards.
